BIOGEN tackled manufacturing cardiovascular organs in the laboratory, with an emphasis on gender. We combined strategies using CAD computational design, medical imaging, additive fabrication, and pluripotent human stem cells. With those technologies, using images and cells from men and women, we made progress in myocardium, valve and blood vessel biofabrication. We have fine-tuned human cardiovascular cell generation processes using hiPSC stem cells, advancing the development of processes that can generate enormous quantities of cells that populate the scaffoldings we 3D print in the laboratory. We hope that in the next few years these developments will contribute to advancing towards regenerative therapies for patients who need them.
