REUSECOV 2

In the first place, within work package 1 (development at laboratory scale of a coating with easy-cleaning properties that facilitates and makes safer medical-surgical instrument reuse), the formulation of a bicomponent solution with easy-cleaning characteristics that can adhere to both plastic and metal substrates has been optimised. On the other hand, in work package 2 (biological evolution of the candidate coating as a healthcare product), the biocompatibility of the chosen coating has been evaluated. In polycarbonate specimen tubes coated with the chosen formula, studies were carried out of: in vitro cytotoxicity (CCL-1 and V79), sensitivity (in vitro skin irritation and rat sensitivity), intracutaneous reactivity in rabbits, acute toxicity in rats and hemocompatibility (erythrocyte agglutination and hemolysis).

On the other hand, in work package 3 (application in real surgical equipment and evaluation of performance), the application of the coating on real surgical equipment was optimised, the performance was evaluated and the application protocol was defined.

Lastly, in work package 4 (technical-economic and environmental analysis of the solutions developed), the technical-economic viability and environmental analyses of the selected coating was done.
